Chengde Mayor Visits Beijing Institutions to Advance Health Food Industry Cooperation

Mayor Fan Hongping of Chengde led a delegation to Beijing on October 27 to meet with China Agricultural University and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs Planning and Design Research Institute, aiming to deepen cooperation in the health food sector. For foreign founders, this signals growing local government support for industry development and potential collaboration opportunities.

Chengde Delegation Seeks Cooperation with Beijing Institutions

On October 27, Mayor Fan Hongping of Chengde led a delegation to Beijing to visit China Agricultural University (CAU) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs Planning and Design Research Institute (MARA-PDRI). The trip focused on deepening cooperation and resulted in a series of consensus points, according to the Chengde municipal government website.

For foreign founders considering setting up operations in China, such government-led engagements highlight the proactive stance of local authorities in fostering industry partnerships, particularly in the health food sector. Understanding these dynamics can help in identifying potential collaboration opportunities and navigating the local business environment.

Meeting with China Agricultural University

At CAU, Mayor Fan met with Chen Wei, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and president of the university, and Vice President Lin Wanlong. Mayor Fan emphasized Chengde's commitment to implementing the spirit of President Xi Jinping's important speeches and the directives from the Hebei Provincial Party Committee and Provincial Government. He outlined the city's focus on attracting investment, launching projects, and clustering industries, with the health food sector as a key driver for rural revitalization. The goal is to build Chengde into an innovation hub and a model for high-quality development in health food for the Beijing area.

Mayor Fan noted that CAU's strong research capabilities and disciplinary achievements align well with Chengde's health food industry. He expressed hope for deeper university-local government cooperation in technological innovation, commercialization of research outcomes, and talent cultivation, with science and technology empowering the high-quality development of the health food industry.

President Chen Wei acknowledged Chengde's proximity to Beijing and Tianjin, its excellent ecological environment, rich agricultural resources, and solid agricultural foundation. He stated that the university will leverage its strengths in research and talent, focus on deep integration of industry, academia, and research, and deepen collaborative efforts to elevate university-local cooperation to new heights.

Talks with MARA Planning and Design Research Institute

At the MARA-PDRI, Mayor Fan held discussions with Wang Yan, the institute's president and party secretary. Mayor Fan described Chengde as a water conservation area for the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and the birthplace of the Saihanba spirit, with unique locational advantages, a sound ecological environment, and abundant natural resources. He noted that Chengde is currently studying and applying the "Thousand Villages Demonstration and Ten Thousand Villages Improvement" experience, actively cultivating the health food industry, promoting deep integration of primary, secondary, and tertiary industries, and advancing comprehensive rural revitalization.

Mayor Fan pointed out that MARA-PDRI has long been dedicated to agricultural and rural development and has broad cooperation space with Chengde. He hopes the institute will leverage its advantages in technology, talent, and think tanks to engage in all-round, deep-level cooperation, using advanced planning concepts to aid Chengde's agricultural and rural modernization and high-end technological achievements to drive high-quality development of the agricultural industry.

President Wang Yan responded by committing to strengthen communication and deepen institute-local linkages. Building on previous cooperation, the institute will continue to explore potential and expand cooperation space to write a new chapter of mutual benefit and win-win outcomes.

Vice Mayor Shen Yujun and Secretary-General of the Municipal Government Xue Liandi also participated in the activities.

Implications for Foreign Founders

For foreign entrepreneurs looking to establish a presence in China, Chengde's active pursuit of partnerships in the health food industry suggests a supportive local government stance. The city's focus on attracting investment and building industry clusters could translate into incentives and support for foreign-invested enterprises in related sectors. However, as with any investment, it is crucial to conduct thorough due diligence and understand local regulations.

Engaging with local government initiatives and research institutions can provide foreign founders with access to resources, talent, and networks. The collaborations highlighted here demonstrate the importance of aligning business strategies with local development priorities, such as rural revitalization and high-quality development.
